Dunrine traffic tailback to continue until end of April

By Sean Moriarty
Traffic delays faced by early morning motorists heading to Killarney from the Tralee side can expect a few more weeks of disruption.
Works on the long-awaited Kilcummin Sewerage Scheme has resulted in several road closures in the area.
As a result, traffic leaving Kilcummin heading towards Killarney must travel via Lawlor’s Cross forcing extra traffic onto the already busy Tralee-Killarney road.
With the slip road at Coolcorcoran also closed, traffic has been backed up from the Cleeney roundabout all the way to Dunrine every morning for the last eight weeks. Now, it's been revealed that construction work has hit an unspecified problem.
Uisce Eireann has applied to Kerry County Council to extend the road closure order beyond its March 31 deadline.
"An extension of this road closure is being sought to the 21st of April subject to confirmation by the local Roads Authority," a Uisce Eireann statement said.
The Killarney Advertiser understands that the contractor is experiencing more-difficult excavation conditions, like bedrock, than originally anticipated.
