County’s artists working out of National Park

Three Artists in Residence at Kerry County Council have benefitted from the goodwill of the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and the support of Minister Josepha Madigan. An expanded partnership sees support for the residencies via the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Trustees of Muckross House in the generous granting of residential cottages from which the county’s resident artists are currently working.
Writer in Residence Annemarie Ní Churráin is based in one of the cottages, as is Filmmaker in Residence Mieke Vanmechelen and shortly they will be joined by Musician in Residence, Ian Wilson. A briefing session was held this week at the Schoolhouse in Muckross in which the Trustees of Muckross House were present alongside representatives from the National Parks & Wildlife Service.
“The temporary use of the cottages allows the NPWS to be especially relevant to contemporary arts culture and we are delighted to be a part of the excellent work that is taking place across these art disciplines in Kerry,” said Pat Dawson, Regional Manager with the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
