Coast Guard assisting injured crewman off Kerry coast

THE Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter is proceeding to evacuate an injured crewman off an Irish fishing vessel approximately 120 miles west of the Blasket Islands.
Valentia Rescue Coordination Centre received a request for assistance from an Irish-registered fishing vessel this afternoon.
The vessel had reported that a crewmember had suffered an injury on-board the fishing vessel and required hospitalisation.
Because of the distance involved communications support known as ‘Top Cover’ is being provided by a second Coast Guard helicopter. The Coast Guard helicopter is expected to rendezvous with the fishing vessel at 5.30pm.
