Clifford is National GAA Player of the Week
David Clifford has been named as the GAA Player of the Week.
The Fossa man scored six points out of Kerry’s total of 1-12 against Mayo last Saturday.
A crucial free-kick in the dying moments of the match, expertly converted by Clifford, ensured a narrow one-point win for the men in Green and Gold.
Each week the GAA invites fans to vote for their choice of players. Clifford received 6,704 votes ahead of Dublin’s Ciarán Kilkenny (2,853) and Sligo’s Niall Murphy (2,363).
“Not even two-time Young Footballer of the Year, Oisin Mullin, could contain Clifford in Saturday evening’s high-octane Allianz Football League clash between Kerry and Mayo. The Kingdom attacker finished the match with six points, four of them from play, and his movement and finishing was a joy to watch,” said a GAA statement.
