Some of most eagerly awaited road projects in Killarney have been included in a multi-million. Euro funding announced on Friday.

The Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan has today confirmed that Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has issued the Greenways and national road funding allocations totalling €676 million to local authorities for 2022.

The biggest local project is the Park Road to Ballyspillane roundabout which is in line for €1.2 million.

The next phase of the new road between Farranfore and Killarney will get €800,000.

The much anticipated and badly needed realignment of the Lewis Road Junction will get €30,000.

Several other very important road schemes are also in line for funding.

These include, Agahdoe (€30,000); Torc to Muckross (€10,000); Fossa (€10,000); Torc to Dinis (€50,000); Muckross Road (€10,000) and Rathmore (€10,000).

Minister Ryan said: “Today’s allocations are an important step in a pathway of planned investment in our national road network over the coming decade. A priority for the Government is to advance safe, clean, liveable towns and communities.

This investment will help to take heavy traffic out of our main streets, giving towns back to residents and shoppers. It will also provide scope for greater Active Travel options (walking and cycling) in town centres. Reduced traffic volumes will allow for ‘compact growth’ in town centres, providing possibilities for residential development. For that reason, we will see a renewed focus on supporting local by-passes.”

As 2026 begins, the Killarney Advertiser would like to wish all our readers a very happy new year and to remind the community that this newspaper belongs to you.

Founded in 1973 by the late Danny Casey and now published by his son Cormac, the Killarney Advertiser has always been a community newspaper in the truest sense. For more than five decades it has told the story of Killarney through the voices, events and achievements of the people who live and work here.
The paper is keen to hear from community organisations, schools, sports clubs, charities and voluntary groups, as well as from individuals with news to share. Fundraisers, events, launches, awards, milestone birthdays and wedding anniversaries all have a place in these pages.
Each week starts with a blank page, shaped by what matters locally. The message is simple: if it matters to the community, it matters to the Killarney Advertiser.
News and photos can be sent to sean@killarneyadvertiser.ie or news@killarneyadvertiser.ie. You tell us, and we will tell the wider community.
