Giving a gift to others was a big lesson little ones from a local preschool learned as they donated toys and other items to those less fortunate than themselves.

Children from Maggie’s Montessori Preschool packed their shoeboxes full of colourful items as they enjoyed taking part in the gift of giving to children of similar ages to themselves.

The school has taken part in Team Hope’s Christmas Shoebox Appeal over the past few years and every year seems to be just as exciting for the children.

They learned what to fill the box with including items chosen by themselves and then had discussions on what was in their box and why!

The heart-warming story of the ‘Bunny’s Shoebox Journey’ gives the children a good understanding on the travels of their shoebox from Ireland to Africa. It explains how some children have never seen a toothbrush, doll or teddy until their Christmas shoebox arrived," Mags O'Sullivan told the Killarney Advertiser.

"When the children realise that often these shoebox gifts are the only gift that a child will receive at Christmas time, they tend to offer more solutions which encourages this priceless and valuable lesson that the children learn by taking part in this meaningful activity."

Killarney-based musician Shane Doolan will release his latest single, ‘SPACEMAN’, this Friday, December 19.

The new track is described as an atmospheric release exploring themes of ambition, isolation, and the desire to escape everyday limits. The single showcases Doolan’s evolving sound, combining emotional storytelling with cinematic production.
The release follows a significant year for the young artist. Earlier in 2024, Doolan headlined his first live show at The Anam Centre in Killarney. The event was a major local success, raising over €1,055 for Movember, the men’s health charity.
Doolan, who first gained local attention after his band won the Battle of the Bands at the Anam Centre, has cited influences such as Walking on Cars, Bon Iver, and Kodaline. Following his September debut, “The Ruins,” and his second single, “After The Bells,” he is currently working toward a debut EP set for release in January 2026.
‘SPACEMA’ will be available on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and all major streaming platforms from this Friday.
