WELL done to the transition year students from Killarney Community College who scooped the prestigious BioPharmaChem Ireland Chemistry Award for best overall chemistry project.
More than 150 students from schools all over Kerry exhibited over 60 projects at SciFest at the Institute of Technology Tralee last Thursday.
SciFest gives students an opportunity to develop their interest in STEM and inquiry-based approaches to learning, while developing their creative and problem-solving skills and learning to work in a team.
Two teams from transition year in Killarney Community College were chosen in January at to represent their school in Tralee. They were the winners of the SciFest@School competition organised by their teacher Geraldine Horan.
One of these projects called “Abolish Nail Polish!”, went on to receive the BioPharmaChem Ireland Chemistry Award for best overall chemistry project. Well done to Lauren O'Sullivan, Amy O'Sullivan and Robyn Sheehan. Congratulations is also due to the Carmel Looney, Victoria Funes and Nikola Papikovel for their project "Thinking Musically".
