Lewis Road resident John Coffey, who turned 100 last week, and his family were so touched by the support received for his special milestone birthday that they wanted to say a public thank you.
They were sincerely touched by all the very generous donations in lieu of gifts towards John’s two chosen charities, Down Syndrome Ireland – Kerry Branch and the Killarney Cardiac Response Unit - each receiving a cheque for €2,000.
“Thank you to the Presentation Sisters for the celebration of Mass to mark the start of my birthday celebrations,” John told the Killarney Advertiser this week.
“Thank you to Killarney Golf & Fishing club, caterers for the beautiful buffet meal provided, Deck The Halls for decorating the venue and Killarney Golf Club Men’s Choir for the fantastic entertainment on the night.”
He also paid tribute to his neighbours who organised a Mass and party for him, as well as Eileen O’Brien for baking the beautiful birthday cake and The Shire for providing the canapés.
“I was delighted to have Killarney Mayor Cllr Michael Gleeson present me with the President’s cheque. Thank you Dr Crokes Club and members for hosting the event.”
He also acknowledged the staff of the Killarney Court Hotel, and Spoglers Continental Pastries for the lovely birthday cake.
“Finally, thank you to all those who sent cards and who also sent good wishes online
and on social media. I was very touched and humbled by the support I received to help me celebrate. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered up for your intentions as an expression of my gratitude. Mile buiochas daoibh go leir.”
