Annual Lions Club Food Appeal in full swing

Published

on

Killarney Lions Club’s Christmas Food Appeal, which provides food hampers and vouchers to families in need during the festive season, has seen huge support in recent weeks in advance of its annual street collection this Friday (December 19).

The transition year students at Killarney Community College raised money through a fantastic bake sale in the school, while the students of St Brendan’s College had great success by fundraising through a ‘non uniform’ day and carol singing in Killarney town.

Next up was the first ever Santa Cycle fundraiser on Saturday December 6, which was supported by Killarney Cycling Club and Christmas in Killarney. The event was a great success, with over €700 raised and more than 40 people taking part in the Cycle which culminated in a guest appearance at the head of the Christmas in Killarney parade.

Lions Club volunteers will be out in force this Friday around Killarney town to raise the remaining funds needed for the Food Appeal. Over 100 families were supported through the initiative in 2024, and the Club hopes to provide similar support this year

Easter rail disruption for Killarney and Tralee passengers

Killarney and Tralee rail passengers are advised to plan for significant disruptions this Easter weekend due to major engineering works on the Cork line.

Iarnród Éireann has confirmed that as part of the Cork Area Commuter Rail programme, signalling and track laying works will take place on Saturday, April 4 and Easter Sunday, April 5. These works will impact all services travelling between Kerry and Cork Kent Station.
During this period, bus transfers will be in place for the final leg of the journey between Mallow and Cork. Passengers travelling from Tralee and Killarney to Cork, and those returning, will be required to transfer to coaches at Mallow station.
A revised timetable will be in operation across the entire Intercity network from Good Friday,  April3,  through to Easter Monday,  April. 6 While the primary impact for Kerry travellers is the Mallow to Cork transfer, Irish Rail is urging all customers to check the official journey planner or the Iarnród Éireann app before heading to the station.
Pre-booking for Intercity travel is strongly advised during the holiday period to ensure capacity on the replacement bus services.
