Kerry Women’s Refuge and Support Services, ADAPT, says they are committed to continuing to support women and children who live with domestic violence in the face of the challenges of the COVID-19 emergency.

“It is our response in this emergency to let women know that we will continue to be available to offer support at this time,” Catherine Casey, General Manager, told the Killarney Advertiser.

“Women across the county can ring our services and we will support in whatever way we can at this time. We will be doing everything we can to support women and to ensure women know what services are available and how they can access them.”

Catherine reiterated that they realise that at this time that home is expected to be a place of safety and yet they know from their work that for many women and children it is very unsafe.

“We realise that the pressures of confinement can make this time even more difficult for families living with coercive control and abuse.”

ADAPT Kerry would encourage women to seek support by ringing them on 066 7129100, and if they feel they are in danger to ring the Gardai on 999.

“At present the ADAPT Kerry Charity Shop on Matt Talbot Road remains open, we would ask people dropping donations to ensure they are bagged please if possible. We appreciate your continued support.”
