O’Carroll Engineering, a Killarney-based steel fabrication and modular construction company, has won Subcontractor of the Year at the Irish Construction Industry Awards 2025. The award was presented at a ceremony in the Convention Centre Dublin on Friday night.

The judges highlighted the company’s performance over 2024–2025, particularly its work delivering large-scale modular balcony systems for residential developments. They praised O’Carroll Engineering’s operational excellence, innovative off-site manufacturing processes, and high levels of client satisfaction.
Established in 1990, O’Carroll Engineering has grown from a two-person operation into one of Ireland’s leading modular steel fabrication specialists, employing more than 165 skilled professionals at its facility in Tiernaboul Industrial Estate, Killarney. The company uses advanced digital technology, including BIM integrated with 3D laser cutting systems, to ensure precision, efficiency, and reduced environmental impact.
Peter Brown, CFO/COO at O’Carroll Engineering, said:
"This award reflects the dedication and expertise of our entire team. Winning this recognition validates our commitment to off-site manufacturing excellence and positions us strongly as we celebrate 35 years in business."
The Irish Construction Industry Awards, launched in 2014, celebrate excellence across the construction sector in Ireland, providing national recognition for innovation, quality, and professionalism.

On Monday, September 1, Mary Kissane O’Shea marked her retirement by cycling from Kissane’s Shop in Beaufort to St Francis’ Special School, retracing the same journey she made on her very first day in 1980 at just 18 years of age.

Mary served as a Special Needs Assistant at the school for 45 years, dedicating her career to supporting generations of pupils.
To mark the occasion, a retirement function was held at The Dunloe Castle Hotel, where Principal Colin McGillycuddy made a special presentation on behalf of the staff and pupils.
Mary also turned her retirement into a fundraiser to support St Francis’ Special School, ensuring the students continue to benefit from a nurturing and supportive environment.
