Muckross rowers have 10 reasons to celebrate following regatta

THE illustrious Muckross Rowing Club was last night celebrating an impressive 10 big wins as it successfully retained Killarney Regatta's coveted Points Cup.
Weather conditions meant that the 231st annual regatta was postponed from its original date on Sunday and it got underway at Mahony’s Point, Killarney Golf Club, on Monday and celebrations continued long into the night on Tuesday at the annual regatta dance at the Killarney Oaks Hotel.
“With the 2016 annual Killarney regatta of to a rocky start on Sunday last we were glad to see the event go ahead on Monday,” said spokeswoman Linda Daly.
“In recent years we have seen just five Killarney clubs race in the traditional event; however we were pleased to see the return of Commercial Rowing Club this year who snapped up second place in the novice men's race.”
The enthusiastic spectators were delighted to see Fossa Rowing Club win back the senior men's title in what is always one of the most tense races of the day. “Fossa’s performances and victories showed a spirit of true grit and survival,” said Linda. “With an exceptionally difficult season they persevered and trained hard to win numerous titles on the day.”
Flesk Valley triumphed in the ladies novice race and St Brendan's took second place in the same race.
Workmen’s Rowing Club’s juvenile boys were successful in their race as well as its junior ladies, taking gold in the fours race later in the evening.
“As we saw the 231st Killarney Regatta come to a close on Tuesday evening we saw Aoife Farrell be crowned the 2016 regatta queen,” added Linda.
“We wish to thank all who were involved in making the day a huge success and to all the clubs, well done, we can look forward to next year as all clubs enjoy the celebrations.”

Person of interest leaves jurisdiction in Killarney murder case
Gardaí investigating the murder of Jamey Carney have confirmed that a person of interest left the jurisdiction in the early hours of Tuesday July 7, prior to the discovery of the body.
An Garda Síochána are currently engaging with international law enforcement partners as part of the ongoing investigation into the death at a domestic residence on Muckross Road. The murder investigation is being carried out by the Serious Crime Unit, Kerry Division, with assistance from national units including the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) and the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB).
The scene at Muckross Road remains preserved today, and the technical examination is continuing.
Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. In particular, anyone who was in the Muckross Road area between 11pm on July 6 and 5am on July 7, and who may have camera, CCTV, or dashcam footage, is asked to contact the investigation team.

Killarney Camera Club member Ade Desbrow has secured first place in the Unrestricted Category of the club’s final competition of the season.
His winning photograph, titled ‘Submerged Flowers’, took the top spot in the Open Print Competition.
