Soroptimists to host annual Pancake and Coffee Morning

Killarney Soroptimist Club has announced the return of its annual Pancake and Coffee Morning, which will take place on Shrove Tuesday, February 17.

The event will be held at the Killarney Avenue Hotel starting from 10.30am.

Attendees can look forward to a morning of music and entertainment featuring Tim Gleeson and friends.

Along with pancakes and coffee, the event will feature various raffles and a door prize on the day.

This year’s door prize is a two-night bed and breakfast stay at the Hayfield Manor Hotel.

The event is a significant fundraiser for the club, with all proceeds being donated to Rockmount Care Centre in Kilgarvan and St Mary of the Angels in Beaufort.

Tickets for the morning are priced at €20 and are available for purchase from, Soroptimist Members, the chosen beneficiary charities or Sheila Casey at 086 814 9677.

Gleneagle leads tributes to Glen Hansard

The Gleneagle Hotel and Arena has led local tributes following the tragic death of Irish music icon Glen Hansard, who passed away this week at the age of 56.


The former frontman of The Frames and Academy Award-winning songwriter died in a motorcycle accident in Dublin on July 29.

He had been due to perform a solo show at the Gleneagle Arena on Friday, November 6.


In a statement released by the venue, a spokesperson for the Gleneagle expressed deep sadness over the loss of the renowned artist.

They extended sincere condolences to his family, friends, and fellow musicians, noting that his music left a lasting mark on audiences around the world.


Tributes have poured in from across the Irish music industry, with the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) expressing profound shock at his sudden passing.

IMRO Chair Tom Dunne praised Hansard’s generational talent and his huge role in shaping the Irish music scene, from his early days busking on Grafton Street to his global success with “Falling Slowly”.

Icons of Irish pop culture heading to Gleneagle Arena

Two icons of Irish pop culture are set to share the stage in Killarney this autumn as football legend Roy Keane sits down in conversation with acclaimed author Roddy Doyle.

The duo will take to the stage at Gleneagle Arena for two nights on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19.


Following the success of their bestselling autobiography collaboration, their previous joint live appearances in Dublin and Cork sold out rapidly.

The Killarney shows promise an evening of stories, personal insights, and trademark straight-talking conversation from Keane, guided by Doyle.
