Proposal to move Farranfore station closer to airport
A proposal to relocate the Farranfore Train Station closer to Kerry Airport to create an integrated transport hub is set to be discussed today, Friday, at the Ordinary December Meeting of Kerry County Council.
Councillor Jackie Healy-Rae is bringing forward a motion requesting that the Council write to Irish Rail and the National Transport Authority (NTA) regarding the plan.
The motion asks that a "comprehensive masterplan be developed for a new integrated Transport Hub in Farranfore." This plan should specifically examine the relocation of the existing train station "further along the existing rail line towards Kerry Airport," with the aim of providing a direct pedestrian link to the terminal and developing an adjoining bus interchange.
The goal of the proposal is to establish a pilot project that demonstrates how rail, air, and road transport can be fully integrated in a rural regional setting. Cllr Healy-Rae argues that this would "enhance accessibility, increase public transport connectivity, and strengthen Kerry’s strategic transport infrastructure."
