Film honouring late Fr Kevin McNamara to be screened in Moyvane

A special screening of Sins of Ireland, a film that featured the late Fr Kevin McNamara, will take place in Moyvane on Friday, September 5.
The event will be held in the Marian Hall with proceeds going to Moyvane Development Association.
The documentary, directed by Alex Fegan, was first shown on RTÉ in 2020 under the title The Confessors. It looks at the tradition of confession in Ireland through the voices of priests themselves, including Fr McNamara, who was parish priest in Moyvane at the time. The screening will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the director.
Fr McNamara, a Clare native, was a well-known figure across Kerry. He served in Kenmare, Rathmore and Killarney before being appointed to Glenflesk Parish in July 2021. Prior to that he had spent six years in Moyvane. In Glenflesk, he quickly became active in community projects, organising events such as a fundraising concert in the Gleneagle Hotel to support the refurbishment of Barraduff Church.
He was remembered as a larger-than-life character who left a lasting mark on every parish he served. His time in Killarney made him especially popular in the area, where he was regarded as approachable and engaging with parishioners. Following his death later in 2021, tributes described him as enthusiastic, energetic and always ready to bring a smile.
Tickets for the Moyvane screening are €12 for adults and €10 for students. They are available online at Eventmaster: https://eventmaster.ie/event/kGkAcK2TA2
The evening is supported by Kennelly’s Homevalue, Enright’s Bar and Fast Fix Doors.
