Harps take centre stage at Muckross for Heritage Week
Aibhlín McCrann, Cathaoirleach of Harp Ireland, was the guest of honour at the ‘Harps for Heritage’ event held on Sunday at Muckross School House, Killarney National Park.
The afternoon showcased some of Ireland’s finest harpists and master craftsmen, including Tim O’Carroll of Killarney Harps, who spoke about his craft and displayed his instruments. Visitors had the opportunity to try playing the harp during a “Hands on Harps” session, with no prior experience required.
Later in the afternoon, musicians shared stories about how traditional tunes are passed down through generations. The event concluded with a concert featuring harpers Kathleen Loughnane, Catríona Cannon, and Deirdre Granville, joined by Cormac Cannon on uilleann pipes, Aoife Granville on flute, Seán Ryan on whistle, and Caitríona Finnegan on cello.
The free, family-friendly event was part of Heritage Week and attracted visitors of all ages to enjoy Ireland’s rich musical heritage.
