National Park to host Alzheimer’s Memory Walk

Killarney National Park will host an Alzheimer’s Memory Walk on Sunday, September 21, to mark World Alzheimer’s Day.
The event is part of a nationwide series of Memory Walks supported by Aviva.
The Kerry walk will start at 11am from the entrance to Killarney House and Gardens and will follow a 5km route through the National Park. Families, friends and communities are invited to take part in support of the 64,000 people living with dementia in Ireland and to remember those who have passed away.
Now in its sixth year, the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk raises funds for services including daycare, support groups, family carer training, social clubs, memory cafés and the ASI national helpline. Last year almost 3,500 walkers nationwide raised over €150,000.
Local champion and Day Care at Home Coordinator for Kerry, Niamh Murphy, is encouraging people to join the walk. “It is a great way to meet new and old friends, share stories and create new memories. Let’s get together and walk with and for loved ones who have been affected by dementia,” she said.
Registration is open at www.memorywalk.ie.
