The preferred route corridor for the proposed new road between Farranfore and Killarney is being confirmed today (Friday), as part of Phase 3 of the N22 Kerry–Cork Economic Corridor project.

Letters are being delivered today to landowners whose property falls within the selected corridor. These letters, issued by Kerry County Council, outline upcoming surveys and planned engagement with landowners over the coming months.
At a recent council meeting, elected members approved the opening of tenders for ground investigation and survey work.
Mayor of Killarney, Cllr Martin Grady, welcomed progress on the long-running project.
“The Killarney to Farranfore road carries more than 20,000 vehicles every day,” he said. “There have been over 300 reported accidents and 18 deaths on this stretch in the last 20 years. That’s enough to justify any level of investment.”
While he welcomed the latest developments, Cllr Grady also expressed disappointment that the project was not included in the Government’s €200 billion National Development Plan.
“I hope Kerry will get its fair share of funding,” he added.
Kerry County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland are jointly leading the project. Jacobs Engineering is handling the technical design work.
