One of Ireland’s best-loved chefs, Kevin Dundon, will join 75 food producers from the Cork and Kerry region at this year’s Cork and Kerry Food Forum. The hugely successful food event is back and will run over two days featuring healthy cookery demonstrations, as well as one of the largest artisan food markets in Ireland, including local food academy producers. The free event will take place from 12 -5pm in Cork City Hall on Sunday 26 and Monday 27 of June 2016.

The Cork and Kerry Food Forum is supported by a partnership including the Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs) Cork and Kerry, Cork City Council, Cork County Council, Kerry County Council, SuperValu and Bord Bia.

The overarching theme of health will be the focus of the 2016 food forum with healthy cookery demonstrations from SuperValu ambassador, Kevin Dundon. A chef with a love of locally-sourced indigenous produce, Kevin Dundon will be in Cork on Monday 27 June and will cook a specially crafted healthy recipe using ingredients from Cork and Kerry producers.

“Now more than ever people are aware of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and the necessity to fuel our bodies with wholesome, fresh food. We are lucky in Ireland to have an abundance of incredible food producers, and none more so than in Cork and Kerry. I am delighted to announce the dates for the 2016 Food Forum, this is going to be a really exciting two-day event and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to City Hall to taste the incredible offerings of our local food producers. The Food Forum is a showcase of how to grow, cook, eat and enjoy food,” said Joe Burke, LEO South Cork.

“Last year we had more than five thousand people come through the doors of Cork City Hall for the food forum, this year we hope to double that. We have an excellent offering of food, fun and family entertainment – and it is free to attend!” he added.

The Cork and Kerry Food Forum will include food producers from the hugely successful SuperValu Food Academy Programme. The programme which is run in conjunction with Bord Bia and the Local Enterprise Office Network, works with and nurtures small businesses through their journey from start up to getting their products on supermarket shelves. The Food Academy currently supports more than 620 small food producers throughout Ireland.

Three families taking centre stage with Killarney Musical Society

Killarney Musical Society’s upcoming production of ‘All Shook Up’ will feature multiple generations of three different families performing side by side.

The show will run from February 10 to 12 in the Gleneagle Arena. Tickets for the highly anticipated show are on sale now.
Music is well known to bring people of all ages together, and this is clearly evident within the Killarney Musical Society, where several families are sharing the stage this year.
The Spillane/Murray family boasts three generations in the production. Phil Spillane has been an active member since she joined KMS in September 1989.
This year, she performs alongside her daughter Amanda and her granddaughter Caoimhe, who is playing the character Lorraine. All three agree they are having great fun practising dance steps and harmonies together and will treasure this time forever.
Mother and daughter Annie and Alannah McIlroy are taking the stage together for the first time. Annie appeared in the 2023 production of Michael Collins, while Alannah joined the cast last year for Evita. They state that the best part of performing together is the quality time they share, not just during rehearsals but on the journeys to and from them, as both share a deep love for musicals.
Finally, the mother and daughter pair of Linda and Eilise O’Donoghue continue a family tradition. While Linda’s father was involved with KMS back in 1986, Linda herself joined in 2015 after being persuaded by her daughter Eilise, who has been a member since 2012. Before each performance, the two rely on each other: Eilise checks Linda’s hair and makeup, while Linda makes sure Eilise’s costume is perfect. They also enjoy practising their alto lines together, making the experience especially meaningful.
The society looks forward to welcoming audiences to the Gleneagle Arena for the three-night run of ‘All Shook Up’ next February.
