Dr Crokes Poc Fada in the National Park

After a successful year on the field of play the Dr. Crokes Juvenile Hurlers headed off-road for their end-of-year Poc Fada competition.
Over 30 young players departed on boats from Ross Castle to the start line at O’Sullivan’s Cascade. The annual event has always been a popular day out for both the players and coaches who work tirelessly to promote hurling in the Killarney area.
After some local poetry and stories of Fionn MacCumhall’s hunting exploits in Tomies Wood the team competition began with the simple rule – complete the loop in the least amount of Pocs. A measure of the player's progression is the winning score was a dramatic improvement on the previous year's record with a winning score of 117 shots and no sliothers lost.
Refreshments and prize giving took place in Kate Kearney’s afterwards where each shot was re-lived and debated with everyone hoping to one day emulate the current Poc Fada All-Ireland Champion; Kerry man Fionán Mackessy.
