A solution to the parking and traffic flow at St Oliver’s School during peak times will depend on funding, a Killarney Municipal District meeting has been told.

Cllr Martin Grady has been pushing for a traffic management plan at the school, especially at school drop-off and pick-up times.
In August last year St. Oliver's National School received planning approval for the construction of a new one-way vehicular set down area, revised pedestrian facilities and the relocation of parking facilities.

Grady raised the issue again at this week’s Killarney Municipal District Meeting.

In December 2023, the Killarney Municipal District Office, in conjunction with An Garda Síochána, held a meeting regarding traffic management with the staff representing St. Oliver's National School.

“On foot of that meeting, the Killarney Municipal District Office is currently undertaking, traffic counts and speed and traffic flow surveys. These surveys are ongoing and will advise of any improvements, if any, that can be made to improve the traffic management at this location,” a council official told the meeting.

“The office will continue to engage with the school. In regard to parking, a planning application, which contained proposals to provide for a carpark, bus and car set-down areas for the school, has received full planning approval. It is our understanding that these works will proceed once they receive funding.”
