€2.5 million price tag for substantial Killarney property

A property in Killarney,  has gone on sale for €2.5 million.

Aghadoe House, a former An Oigie Youth Hostel, is being offered for sale by Dublin-based estate agents Avison Young.

The house and its grounds has the potential to be developed into a top class tourist resort.

The property comprises a once in a lifetime redevelopment opportunity to purchase Aghadoe House and various outbuildings (36 bedrooms) suitable for refurbishment / redevelopment together with significant lands on a total site area of approximately 24.31 Hectares).

The property is accessed via a sweeping drive off the R563 (Dingle Road) and benefits from spectacular views over Killarney Town, Lakes of Killarney and the Macgillycuddy's Reeks and comprises a range of buildings including Aghadoe House, The Lodge (residential building) and Gate lodge dating from 1828 which were designed by the Pian Brothers - English architects based in Limerick and Cork. The property has the benefit of two vehicular and pedestrian access points along the southern boundary.

Aghadoe House is an attractive striking period building which was built in 1828, refurbished in the 1860's partially destroyed by fire in 1922 but re-built c.1925 and was purchased by An Oige (the Irish youth hostel Association) in 1957 and has operated as a youth hostel in recent times.

The original property includes at ground floor level, fine well-proportioned rooms overlooking the grounds with the main reception rooms retaining their original features of comfort and grandeur including period windows, fireplaces and a substantial ornamental timber staircase.

AGHADOE HOUSE

Comprises a part two and three storey property recently in use as a hostel (25 Bedrooms) and ancillary accommodation including kitchens, dining areas, recreational rooms, reception rooms and toilet facilities together with ample on-site parking.

THE LODGE

'The Lodge' is located at the rear of the original house and comprises a single storey residential building with 11 bedrooms.

GATE LODGE

The gate lodge is located at the entrance to the property off the R563 (Dingle Road) and is of similar design to Aghadoe House and comprises a single storey building with two rooms.

THE GROUNDS

Aghadoe House comprises a total site area of approximately 24.31 hectares (60.06 acres) with lawns to the south and west of the main house. The remainder of the grounds / lands comprises of mature woodlands / forestry and walkways surrounding an undeveloped central meadow / agricultural land of approximately 3.5 hectares (8.6 acres). There are several walkways on the perimeter of the property.

INVESTMENT PROPERTY

At the rear of Aghadoe House and to the north of the holding along the main road (R563 - Dingle Road) a portion of the overall site (comprising approximately 4.79 hectares (11.83 acres) including the original Coach House buildings) is held subject to an Agreement for Lease (AFL) to a third party. An annual sum of €50,000.00 is payable under the terms of the AFL since 1 January 2020.

The Killarney Advertiser is live at the Killarney Plaza Hotel & Spa this morning where the official announcement is underway that County Kerry is getting its very own customised MONOPOLY board.
“The Kingdom” is officially celebrating after beating five other counties across the island of Ireland—Donegal, Tipperary, Tyrone, Wexford, and Wicklow—to land the ultimate board game honours. Game makers Winning Moves, who produce the regional editions under license from Hasbro, reveal that Kerry ticked every single box based on three key factors: a sense of family values, civic pride, and sheer beauty.
More than 30 iconic County Kerry landmarks and organisations are set to feature on the bespoke board, with Killarney landmarks like the Killarney National Park and Muckross House already included for properties. The board sets will be uniquely themed to reflect local heritage, hospitality, castles, culture, tourism, and business.
Even the Chance and Community Chest cards are getting a complete Kingdom makeover. For example, players might find themselves sent back three spaces for driving the wrong way around Slea Head.
Speaking at the launch event, John Keen-Tomlinson, Partnership Manager at Winning Moves, says the team is going to be wonderfully spoilt for choice. While global favourites like the Ring of Kerry, Skellig Michael, Carrigafoyle Castle, and Gleninchaquin Nature Park are in the running, the public is being officially invited today to submit their own suggestions for what should make the final cut.
Welcoming the news, Pat O’Leary, Chair of the Kerry Tourism Industry Federation, says that the game reflects the high profile of Kerry’s long-standing welcome to visitors over many generations. He is urging the people of Kerry to get creative and submit their suggestions to the game makers, recommending a visit to www.discoverkerry.com for inspiration.

Alexandra Mae Gemeniano announced as Miss Universe Ireland finalist

Killarney resident Alexandra Mae Gemeniano has been announced as an official finalist for Miss Universe Ireland 2026.


The announcement was made at the national competition’s summer launch party, which took place last week at Bewley’s Café Theatre on Grafton Street in Dublin.
Alexandra (43) is originally from the Philippines and moved to Ireland with her family when she was 17. She became an Irish citizen in 2011. After living and working in the UK for 14 years, she returned to Killarney to be closer to her family and currently works in the beauty industry.
The launch event marked the official start of the selection process to find Ireland’s representative for the global Miss Universe competition. The current title holder is 19-year-old Aadya Srivastava from Galway.
The national final is scheduled to take place on Saturday 20th June at the Bonnington Hotel in Dublin. The winner will represent Ireland at the 75th annual Miss Universe global final, where the reigning Miss Universe, Fátima Bosch Fernández of Mexico, will crown her successor.
