K
KILLARNEY GARDAÍ are promoting safer communities via an intensive campaign that starts next week.
The first Supporting Safer Communities Campaign of 2016, it takes place between Thursday, June 2, and Wednesday, June 8.
“The theme of the campaign is ‘Be Safe – Be Streetwise’ and it focuses on preventing crimes potentially linked with the night-time economy, such as assaults, thefts and robberies,” said Sergeant Dermot O’Connell of Killarney Garda Station.
“The Supporting Safer Communities Campaign offers An Garda Síochána an excellent opportunity to showcase divisional crime prevention and community safety activities and project a public reassurance strategy.”
Sergeant O’Connell is also a member of Killarney’s Purple Flag committee and the colour purple was all the rage in town when it was lit up in style last autumn to celebrating retaining the coveted award for the second year.
The Purple Flag recognizes excellence in evening and night-time management of the economy and a safe and friendly environment from 5pm to 5am in which to live, socialise and work.
