The issue of cars parking in bus bays at Torc Waterfall is to be reviewed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

The matter was raised in the Dail last week by local TD Danny Healy Rae.

He asked the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to look into the matter.

“There is an issue at Torc Waterfall whereby buses cannot pull in and park due to cars parking in these bus spaces. Could proper signs be erected at this location by the NPWS to ensure cars park properly and this would then allow the buses to be able to pull in and park safely,” said Healy Rae.

In reply a department official said: “the department has significantly invested in the car parking infrastructure as well as footpaths and trails in Killarney National Park in recent years.
“Torc Waterfall is, of course, one of the most iconic sites on the Ring of Kerry.

“The number of visitors to the site is in excess of 30,000 people per year, with the busiest months being July and August.

“The NPWS are reviewing signage and road markings in the Torc car park in order to address some of the issues raised.”
