Club members Jason Murphy and Adam Murphy were in Tweed Valley Scotland last weekend competing at the Tweedelove International Enduro Event.

.

Killarney Cycling Club members Luke Costello Ewan Buckley and Sam Bolger took part in the Kanturk three-day over the long weekend.

Saturday’s practice highlighted the high level of competition that lay ahead with a number of top International professionals in the field.
Jason rode consistently well throughout the six stages to finish 13th in his category of 119. Due to unfortunate circumstances, Adam was unable to start the race on Sunday but will no doubt be back in action soon.

XC:
Last weekend saw back to back racing in the Slieve Bloom Mountains for the final two rounds of this year’s XC Biking Blitz Series.

Mark McGlynn, Patrick Clifford, Michael Coghlan and Callum Steadman all took to the start line for Killarney CC. Some top 10 results over the two days along with a second and a first place for Callum Steadman in the Junior race finished out the series on a high for Killarney CC members.

Road:
The Kanturk three-Day stage race run by O’Leary Stone Kanturk Cycling Club took place over the Bank Holiday weekend in the neighbouring county Cork.

Killarney CC had Sam Bolger, Ewan Buckley and Luke Costello in the Senior race and Ben O’Keeffe competing in the U16s.

Some hard efforts all weekend were well rewarded with Ewan taking home the A3 GC jersey after four taxing stages.

Sam finished third on Stage three and went one better on Stage four, to collect silver. Luke's aggressive racing in his first stage race meant he finished amongst the top Junior racers in the country.
Ben also battled hard all weekend in the U16’s race and will be one to watch in the future.
David Culloty of AllHuman VeloRevolution racing also took part and got into the winning move on the final day to finish fifth in stage four.

Leisure:
Registration has now opened on eventmaster for the Clubs Sportive Cycle, the Three Peaks Challenge which takes place on June 17 from St. Oliver's School, Ballycasheen.

Work on new, fully accessible public toilet facilities at Killarney Library is set to begin on Monday, July 20, marking the realisation of a project first tabled over two years ago.

The upgrade was initially put forward by Councillor Marie Moloney in May 2024, when she raised a motion at a Kerry County Council meeting highlighting the unacceptable lack of disabled toilets in a public building. At the time, Cllr Moloney noted that while access ramps were in place, several library users with disabilities were disappointed by the lack of facilities. “I will be keeping the pressure on to have these facilities provided as soon as possible,” she stated at the time.
Delivered by the Council’s Facilities Section, the upcoming works are expected to be completed in the autumn. The development will provide a new entrance to the toilet area, a fully accessible toilet, and baby changing facilities.
Killarney Library will remain open throughout the construction period, with all regular services continuing as normal. To ensure safety, the front porch, the existing public toilets, and the events room will be temporarily closed. Visitors will access the library via a signposted side entrance, and alternative public toilets will be available nearby at the High Street Car Park.

Kerry Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) has issued a warm weather warning for anyone climbing in the region after being called to assist a walker on Sunday.

The rescue team was tasked to the Devil’s Ladder area of Carrauntoohil (Corrán Tuathail) to help a climber experiencing severe exhaustion and dehydration. Volunteers successfully assisted the walker down to an awaiting vehicle.
With the current heatwave continuing, KMRT is reminding all hillwalkers to prepare adequately before setting out.
The team recommends carrying at least one extra litre of water, wearing sunscreen, and using a peaked or wide-brimmed hat. Walkers should set out early in the morning to ensure they are off the mountains before the peak heat builds in the middle of the day.
KMRT also advises walkers to consider changing their plans to less strenuous routes or rescheduling their climbs entirely until temperatures drop.
