Force set to awaken in town this Thursday
IT’S official – the people of Kerry will be among the first in the world to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens when they are treated to a special screening in the county this week.
Killarney Advertiser caught up with some very excited Star Wars enthusiasts at Cinema Killarney where the movie will be screened at lunchtime on Thursday, December 17, in partnership with Killarney Chamber of Tourism & Commerce, Disney and LucasFilm.
The special preview screening is a thank you to the people of Kerry for hosting the shoot of some scenes for the movie on Sceilg Mhichíl.
The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys, has welcomed the decision. “The enchanting and mystical beauty of South Kerry caught the attention of the filmmakers, but it was the hospitality of the local people which helped to make the film shoot a success,” said Minister Humphreys.
“I am really pleased that Disney and LucasFilm are arranging a special Kerry screening of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens as a way to say thanks to those locally who gave such a welcome to the cast and crew.”
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will help to showcase the unique natural and built heritage of Sceilg Mhichíl and it will bring images of this beautiful region of South Kerry to an unrivalled global audience, she added. “The success of the shoot also helps to reaffirm Ireland’s capacity to support high-end film production,” said Minister Humphreys.
