St Francis buskers raise €2,500

By Sean Moriarty
There was a great atmosphere with plenty of songs and laughter on Friday at the St Francis Special School’s Choir annual busking day.
It took place in the Killarney Outlet Centre and such was the support that €2,500 was raised for the school.
After a break of three years, the pupils and staff of the school’s choir were delighted to be back busking.
First run in 2018, and again in 2019, the busking fundraiser fell foul to pandemic-related crowd-gathering rules for the last two years.
But the success of last weekend’s fundraiser has given the school the confidence to make it an annual event.
“We were blown away by all the support, we raised €2,500 which was our biggest ever – we hope to build on this and make it an annual even,” Mary O’Riordan, the teacher at the school with responsibility for the choir, said.
“We are so proud of all our pupils. They really shone on the day, it was a wonderful experience for them.”
All funds raised by the choir will be donated to the care facility.
