Hospital fundraiser returns to buy vital medical equipment

By Michelle Crean
Tonight (Friday), after an absence of almost two years, Friends of University Hospital Kerry will hold their annual fundraiser to buy vital medical equipment.
Their 30th annual fundraiser is a Greyhound Meeting at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium with the first race at 7.45pm.
Over €3 million has been raised for the hospital by the Friends of University Hospital Kerry since 1990 thanks to the dedicated and extremely hard working group of volunteers and also from the generosity of the public.
"This year the money will be used to buy new equipment or removing benign and cancerous growths from the bowel," PJ Hayes, Head of the Fundraising Committee, said.
"We also plan to get a device to measure circulation in rheumatology patients which will point towards the appropriate treatment. In addition, there are plans to furnish a special unit in the Emergency Department to look after elderly patients with acute confusion. Thanks to the generosity of people and business throughout the county and beyond, sums of €25, €50, €100 and many larger sums have been donated over the years."
