Poitín’s the potion for new one act play

By Michelle Crean
A lady so inspired by by her lockdowns walks around Killarney has written a play which will take to the stage this Friday night.
Rita Kearney McCarthy will perform her one act play 'The Woman from Purple Mountain' in Kate Kearneys Cottage at 7pm.
This poignant play runs about 40 minutes and features Josephine Roche and Mairead Brosnan.
"It's presented by the Knocknagoshel Spike Players," Susan Goodwillie told the Killarney Advertiser.
"During COVID Rita walked a lot around Killarney with a guide who gave a good history of the area. She was moved by stories of strong women on their own."
Susan explained that the play is about an old woman thinking back on her life and goes between her older self and her younger self.
"Her husband died and she had a Poitín induced dream to find the recipe for his Poitín. She makes it and delivers it all over the Black Valley."
Tickets are €5, call 087 705 0670 to reserve a seat.
"Rita is very excited about the play. She was very inspired by Kate Kearney."
