There were two local winners in the Best Dressed competition that ran alongside Ladies Day at Killarney Races last week.

WINNERS: Dawn Milk Ladies and Gents winners at Killarney Races Killarney Races Niall Crowley Kilcummin and Charlene Brosnan Killarney with judges Aidan O'Mahony and Anna Daly Photos By : Domnick Walsh / Eye Focus Ltd.

Celebrity judges Anna Daly and Aidan O’Mahony had a tough challenge whittling down the ten finalists.

“What a day! Killarney must be the most picturesque racecourse in Ireland. It was a joy to spend the day in the sunshine with my partner in crime Aidan O’Mahony, among such elegance and style. Killarney you're a charm. I could hardly call this work! I'll be back very soon,” said Daly.

The Ladies Day winner was Charlene Brosnan a primary school teacher from Killarney, who won a specially commissioned crystal vase and a trip to Paris for two. Charlene’s stunning look was a beautiful cream ruffled dress paired with gold headpiece and heels.

“Absolutely thrilled to win here in Killarney. I come to most meetings here and it’s an honour to win at my local racecourse. I’m wearing a dress I wore to my son’s christening and its lovely to be able to get another wear out of it. I’m so looking forward to my trip to Paris. Thanks so much to Anna and Adian and all at Dawn Milk – we were treated like royalty,” she said.

In the gent’s category Niall Crowley from Kilcummin came out on top.

“What an honour to be chosen as the Dawn Milk Best Dressed Gent at Killarney Races. I just arrived back from Dubai on Monday where I have been living for the past five years, this has made for a fantastic start to my summer at home with family and friends. I got my suit tailor made in Dubai for the occasion and I'm delighted that it has all paid off. I'm a teacher working in Dubai and it's great to be home for the summer,” he said.

A month-long exhibition marking the centenary of Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty’s ordination will open at the Library next week.

The Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial Society has confirmed that the exhibition will run from December 16, to January 17, , coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the Killarney priest’s ordination on December 20, 1925.
The display will feature a collection of photographs, artefacts and documents previously exhibited in Killarney, along with several newly sourced historic items.
Organisers say the exhibition will appeal to visitors of all ages, particularly students, as it outlines the life and humanitarian work of the famed cleric, who saved thousands of lives in Rome during World War II.
The exhibition will be formally opened by the Mayor of Killarney, Cllr Martin Grady.
