Patrick has triple marathon ambition for cancer charities

By Sean Moriarty
A Killarney man is attempting to run three different marathons in three different locations in memory of his late wife.
Hotelier Patrick Eviston is participating in the Cork Marathon tomorrow (Sunday), his second in as many months.
He is doing so to raise funds for Kerry Cancer Support Group (KCSG) who helped his wife Linda during her battle with cancer. Linda passed away in October 2020 and Pat has been running marathons in her memory.
Last October, due to the pandemic related cancellation of the Dublin Marathon, Patrick along with his son Eric ran a 42.2km course near Killarney, supported by Patrick's daughter Alannah on the day before Linda's anniversary, to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Patrick has decided to run three marathons this year to raise funds for various cancer charities.
He has family in Vancouver, Canada, and a brother-in-law there who is a cancer patient. Last month he ran a marathon in the western Canadian city to raise funds for local organisations over there.
"Last year my family did our ‘local’ marathon for the Irish Cancer Society and raised €48,000. This year I wanted to do something for the local organisations,” he told the Killarney Advertiser.
“I am in awe with the volunteers and the work that they do, driving people to chemo. The price of diesel is gone through the roof, they need it for the buses.”
Patrick has also set his eyes on the Dublin City Marathon in October.
