Four Kerry hotels - including three in Killarney - have made the list of top five hotels in Ireland.

TEAM EFFORT: Management and staff at the Ballygarry Estate Hotel and Spa in Tralee are celebrating after being named the second-best hotel in Ireland on Tripadvisor.

Each year Tripadvisor selects 25 out of 833 hotels in Ireland and ranks them by Travellers' Choice.

The Old Weir Lodge, Muckross was named as the number one hotel in Ireland following the Travellers' Choice rankings.

Management and staff at the Ballygarry Estate, Hotel and Spa in Tralee are celebrating after being named the second-best hotel in Ireland following a Tripadvisor survey.

The Killarney Park and the Cahernane House Hotel were ranked fourth and fifth respectively.

Also in Tripadvisor’s Annual Awards, Loch Lein Country House was ranked number one in Ireland in its Top Small Stay’s Hotel Category.

These awards recognise “intimate hotels that make big impressions”. A family run hotel, this four star property is nestled into a natural landscape with stunning views across Loch Lein and the McGillicuddy Reeks.

This award is based on traveller’s reviews and ratings posting on Tripadvisor throughout 2021.
The country house was called an “absolute gem” and “an enchanting small hotel in a perfect locale”.

Furthermore it has been ranked in this category as number seven in Europe and No 18 in the world.

“We are beyond happy to have received this award and it is a testament to the wonderful and loyal staff here at Loch Lein particularly in light of the crushing impact COVID-19 has had on our industry,” said proprietor Paul Corridan.

The long-awaited Beaufort Wastewater Scheme has taken a significant step forward following the Government’s decision to increaseproject funding to €7 million.

The uplift forms part of an additional €14.3 million announced under Measure A8 of the Multi-annual Rural Water Programme, supporting seven rural wastewater projects nationwide.
Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill welcomed the increase, saying the funding is “most welcome and long overdue,” but added that the project now needs to move ahead without further delay.
Minister Michael Healy-Rae also acknowledged the progress, stating, “This is a hugely important step forward for Beaufort,” and said he will continue pushing for delivery.
Deputy Danny Healy-Rae said the upgrade is essential for the village, noting, “Beaufort has waited long enough.”
The enhanced funding allows the scheme to proceed to the next stage, with all parties calling for construction to begin as soon as possible.

Three families taking centre stage with Killarney Musical Society

Killarney Musical Society’s upcoming production of ‘All Shook Up’ will feature multiple generations of three different families performing side by side.

The show will run from February 10 to 12 in the Gleneagle Arena. Tickets for the highly anticipated show are on sale now.
Music is well known to bring people of all ages together, and this is clearly evident within the Killarney Musical Society, where several families are sharing the stage this year.
The Spillane/Murray family boasts three generations in the production. Phil Spillane has been an active member since she joined KMS in September 1989.
This year, she performs alongside her daughter Amanda and her granddaughter Caoimhe, who is playing the character Lorraine. All three agree they are having great fun practising dance steps and harmonies together and will treasure this time forever.
Mother and daughter Annie and Alannah McIlroy are taking the stage together for the first time. Annie appeared in the 2023 production of Michael Collins, while Alannah joined the cast last year for Evita. They state that the best part of performing together is the quality time they share, not just during rehearsals but on the journeys to and from them, as both share a deep love for musicals.
Finally, the mother and daughter pair of Linda and Eilise O’Donoghue continue a family tradition. While Linda’s father was involved with KMS back in 1986, Linda herself joined in 2015 after being persuaded by her daughter Eilise, who has been a member since 2012. Before each performance, the two rely on each other: Eilise checks Linda’s hair and makeup, while Linda makes sure Eilise’s costume is perfect. They also enjoy practising their alto lines together, making the experience especially meaningful.
The society looks forward to welcoming audiences to the Gleneagle Arena for the three-night run of ‘All Shook Up’ next February.
