Get on your marks for AIB Schools Fitness Challenge

KERRY sharpshooters Colm Cooper and James O’Donoghue will be ensuring everyone is under starters’ orders in Killarney today for the AIB Schools Fitness Challenge. And the GAA stars will be on hand throughout the day to meet and greet the athletes.
Last year over a thousand students took part in this major sporting event hosted by the South/East Community Rural Track group and St Brendan’s College and sponsored by AIB.
The hugely successful 5k event, in aid of the Killarney Microtrack project on New Road, is being organised by the same trio of groups again this year.
Registration today for the AIB Schools Fitness Challenge is in the field at Knockreer in Killarney National Park at 12.15pm (next to the playground) and the event will start at 1pm sharp.
It is open to all secondary school students who will run/jog/walk a 5k route and fifth/sixth class primary students who will complete a 2k course.
“The Killarney Microtrack project aims to provide the Killarney and surrounding communities with a fantastic facility that all surrounding communities will benefit from,” said Brian Looney of AIB.
The participants’ €5 donation will go directly towards the local community project, Killarney Microtrack Fund.
