Construction of new 130 bed Community Nursing Unit to begin next July

Construction of the town's new 130 bed Community Nursing Unit is set to begin next July and be completed within two years.
The project, which is part of a bundle of seven projects to be delivered by Public Private Partnership (PPP), will replace the existing facility for Older Persons in Killarney.
In recent days Independent TD Michael Healy-Rae had sought an update from the Minister for Health.
In a Parliamentary Question he asked: "Minister, under the newly published National Development Plan, Killarney Community Nursing Unit is to receive funding for a residential care centre, can you confirm how much funding will be allocated to this and what is the time line for this project and if he will make a statement on the matter".
Jim Curran, National Director Capital & Estates with the HSE replied:
"The funding for the project is being provided by the PPP Consortium and will be repaid by the HSE by way of Unitary Payment during the 25 year concession period. The funding for these payments will be included in the HSE's Capital Plan. The HSE are planning to replace the existing facility for Older Persons Killarney with a new 130 bed Community Nursing Unit. Construction is expected to commence in July 2022 and completed in 24 months."
