VTOS are proud to be one of the leading providers of Adult Education for Killarney and surrounding areas, supported by Kerry Educational and Training Board (KETB) for the past 28 years. Their team endeavours to provide adult learners with a supportive caring environment which will enable them to achieve their full potential.

“The Killarney VTOS vision of education has evolved since our commencement in 1993," Mary A. O’Connor told the Killarney Advertiser.

"At the core of Killarney VTOS has been the broad understanding of education being a lifelong instrumental life skill. Central to this is the learners’ well-being, enabling him/her to develop, grow and commence their journey either into employment and/or further education. Learners leave Killarney VTOS prepared and equipped with self-awareness, self-knowledge and a relevant skillset to competently enter the world of work or progress to further education and training.”

The QQI/ICDL certificates that the learners achieve through the VTOS programmes are proof of their commitment, determination, hard work and perseverance. Killarney VTOS believe that the centre plays a vital role in the promotion of positive mental health and they are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for building life skills and resilience amongst our learners.

Their programmes include Information and Communication Technology Skills - QQI Level 3 and 4, and Employment Skills - QQI Level 5.

The long-awaited Beaufort Wastewater Scheme has taken a significant step forward following the Government’s decision to increaseproject funding to €7 million.

The uplift forms part of an additional €14.3 million announced under Measure A8 of the Multi-annual Rural Water Programme, supporting seven rural wastewater projects nationwide.
Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill welcomed the increase, saying the funding is “most welcome and long overdue,” but added that the project now needs to move ahead without further delay.
Minister Michael Healy-Rae also acknowledged the progress, stating, “This is a hugely important step forward for Beaufort,” and said he will continue pushing for delivery.
Deputy Danny Healy-Rae said the upgrade is essential for the village, noting, “Beaufort has waited long enough.”
The enhanced funding allows the scheme to proceed to the next stage, with all parties calling for construction to begin as soon as possible.

Killarney Musical Society’s upcoming production of ‘All Shook Up’ will feature multiple generations of three different families performing side by side.

The show will run from February 10 to 12 in the Gleneagle Arena. Tickets for the highly anticipated show are on sale now.
Music is well known to bring people of all ages together, and this is clearly evident within the Killarney Musical Society, where several families are sharing the stage this year.
The Spillane/Murray family boasts three generations in the production. Phil Spillane has been an active member since she joined KMS in September 1989.
This year, she performs alongside her daughter Amanda and her granddaughter Caoimhe, who is playing the character Lorraine. All three agree they are having great fun practising dance steps and harmonies together and will treasure this time forever.
Mother and daughter Annie and Alannah McIlroy are taking the stage together for the first time. Annie appeared in the 2023 production of Michael Collins, while Alannah joined the cast last year for Evita. They state that the best part of performing together is the quality time they share, not just during rehearsals but on the journeys to and from them, as both share a deep love for musicals.
Finally, the mother and daughter pair of Linda and Eilise O’Donoghue continue a family tradition. While Linda’s father was involved with KMS back in 1986, Linda herself joined in 2015 after being persuaded by her daughter Eilise, who has been a member since 2012. Before each performance, the two rely on each other: Eilise checks Linda’s hair and makeup, while Linda makes sure Eilise’s costume is perfect. They also enjoy practising their alto lines together, making the experience especially meaningful.
The society looks forward to welcoming audiences to the Gleneagle Arena for the three-night run of ‘All Shook Up’ next February.
