New Kerry Minor team captain named
By Sean Moriarty
Kilcummin’s Dara O’Callaghan is set to be announced as the next captain of the Kerry Minor Football team.
The fullback played a crucial role in the team’s delayed 2020 campaign which came to an unfortunate end against Derry in Tullamore last Sunday.
The team’s attention will now turn to the 2021 season. They will face Cork in the Munster Semi Final on July 30 at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
“He will bring invaluable experience with him to his new leadership role,” said a Kerry GAA statement announcing his appointment.
Kilcummin GAA Club’s chairman Eugene McSweeney said the club was delighted with the news.
“The O’Callaghan family are treasured members of the club,” he told the Killarney Advertiser. “We are absolutely delighted. He is a nice young lad and very level headed – we wish him all the very the best.”
The appointment will be formally ratified at Monday night’s County Committee meeting.
