The residents of Coolcorcoran and Deerpark is the latest group to voice concerns on the proposed new N22 Killarney to Farranfore road project.

They issued a statement on Thursday evening just as the Killarney Advertiser was closing for press.

Friday was the final day to lodge concerns to Kerry County Council, but, like most other locals, they are unhappy with the online format and want a public meeting on the matter.

They have raised issues on the potential destruction of native woodlands and fauna.

“We are devastated over the possible destruction of this woodland area in our region which is home to many species. In addition to this we are concerned for the noise pollution created in the area which can have significant impact on human health as well as pressures to wildlife and ecosystems.
We would like to call for a public meeting to express our concerns in person,” said a group statement issued to the Killarney Advertiser.

Locals invited Killarney Green Party representative Diarmaid Griffin to examine the proposed routes.

“On meeting landowners in the Coolcorcoran area of Killarney, I got a comprehensive tour of the landscape that will be impacted by options B, C and D of the N22 project,” said Griffin.

“The proposed woods will be dissecting prime farmland, the dark wood and the River Deenagh. The woodlands and River Deenagh form part of the Killarney National Park, MacGillycuddy Reeks and Caragh River Catchment Special Area of Conservation.”
