Job losses as Killarney’s Carphone Warehouse shuts its doors
The Killarney branch of Carphone Warehouse shut its doors on Tuesday resulting in job losses for the town after parent company Dixon’s Carphone closed its entire Irish branch network.
A total of 80 branches closed at short notice, including the Killarney store in Deerpark, resulting in the loss of 486 jobs nationwide.
Mobile phone customers who paid for contracts with the major networks through Carphone Warehouse should not see any change in services the company has confirmed.
"Customers are changing the way they buy mobile devices and connectivity, replacing their handsets less often and buying them separately or as part of more flexible bundles. Although these changes in behaviour were anticipated, they were expected to occur over a longer period of time. However, the change in shopping behaviours has been accelerated by the pandemic,” said a company statement.
Customers will not lose connection to their chosen network and SIM cards will continue to work as normal.
Queries relating to network connection and SIM cards can be directed to the service provider.
