Repair works on the water main that feeds many of the mid-Kerry areas that suffer burst pipes are to be carried out before the end of this year.
Irish Water has confirmed that it will replace 1.2km of mains along the Board of Works road that runs between Beaufort and Glencar.
This pipe feeds the Barleymount and the Lahard reservoir and supplies the vast hinterland of Beaufort, Faha, Listry, Rockfield, Aghadoe, Barleymount, Crohane, to Ballyhar.
“I want to welcome this vitally important funding,” said Killarney Mayor Brendan Cronin. “Water mains have been continuously breaking leaving homes repeatedly without water which is very frustrating. Last weekend there were five breaks on this section in three days alone.”
Kerry County Council said the works are confirmed for completion in the current year.
