St Brigid’s students are champions of the Irish language
By Sean Moriarty
Two fifth year students at St Brigid’s Secondary School had a double cause for celebration last week after being recognised for their efforts in promoting the use of the Irish language.
Rebecca Doyle and Saoirse Coffey have been selected to represent the school in the Kerry finals of the ‘Gael Linn Comórtas Oráide’ speech competition.
They took part in the early rounds of the competition late last year but only learned recently that they had qualified for the county finals.
They also took part in the European Commission 'Young Translators Competition'.
“Scoláirí spreagúla iad gan dabht ar bith,” said St Brigid’s Peggy Dowling. "They are undoubtedly inspiring scholars,"
Their qualification was announced as part of the annual Seachtain na Gaeilge which promotes the use of the Irish language in the days before and after St Patrick’s Day.
