Fossa Active Retired receive funds for fun!

Members of Fossa Active Retired are currently enjoying getting back into the bowling spirit after receiving funding for new activity mats.
After months of lockdown for many of the group's over 70s, members are once again coming together to enjoy a game of bowls although in more restricted numbers with a high level of safety measures in place.
Every Thursday and Friday from 3pm to 5.30pm, they enjoy the social interaction of a game on the two new mats which were part funded by the Community Support Fund from Kerry County Council.
Costing over €1,200 each, the group were delighted to receive €750 towards their new purchase.
"Fossa Active Retirement Association would like to acknowledge receipt of financial support from Kerry County Council under the Community Support Fund which is really appreciated as it is a great help towards the purchase of two new indoor bowling mats," Secretary of Fossa Active Retirement, Brendan Lynch, told the Killarney Advertiser.
He explained that the group are lucky that it has the space in Fossa hall to be able to play bowling in a safe manner.
"Normally we have three mats but we're limiting ourselves to two mats, eight people per mat. The hall is spacious so we can socially distance in a safe manner. We're very lucky as our COVID officer has done a great job."
And he added that people are delighted to be back to a bit of activity and they're following all the guidelines by distancing and hand sanitising.
"It's a nice gentle activity, it's fun. For most of us we enjoy the camaraderie."
