New equipment for Killarney Fire Station
By Sean Moriarty
Killarney Fire and Rescue has taken delivery of a new jeep-mounted high-pressure pump which will help in tackling gorse fires in remote areas and incidents in confined spaces where fire trucks cannot gain access.
The new pump was delivered to Killarney Fire Station while a second one was assigned to Caherciveen Fire Station this week.
The pumps are also fitted with a road de-greaser sprayer which will allow for a faster clean-up time following an oil spill or similar such incidents.
The new Killarney pump has a capacity for 300 litres of water which triples the capacity of the former pump based at the station.
“It is ideal for bogland fires where you can't get a truck.” Station officer Paudie Mangan told the Killarney Advertiser. “It will help in laneways too, where there might be a dustbin fire, it will allow quicker access than a truck.”
