One local make-up artist is planning to host her very first online makeup tutorial – and is donating proceeds to charity.

Annette O’Brien , who lives in Killarney, is asking ladies to donate just €10 for a live two hour tutorial – which takes place this Thursday - with all proceeds going to Pieta House.

“I choose Pieta House charity as unfortunately so many of us know someone who has passed away through suicide or else we have close friends who have lost someone dear to them,” Annette explained to the Killarney Advertiser this week.

“I do the Darkness Into Light walk every year and it was due to take place on May 9. I decided to do some fundraising as the walk has been postponed.”

She is planning to do a glam look for the tutorial.

“The best part about this is that I will be on hand to guide people along, they can follow my techniques and ask questions throughout the tutorial. I will chat everything from skincare to brows to make-up. The best part about this is that if they can’t attend the tutorial on the night they’ll have access to it whenever they want and re-watch it again. It will be a fun event, nothing too serious. It’s a chance to sip some wine, learn a new make-up technique and have a bit of time on your own.”

At present, Annette says that she is busy helping to organise dates for her brides as most of them have had to postpone their weddings to 2021.

“Hopefully towards the end of the year I will be back doing bridal make-up once the social distancing lifts. It’s a hard job to do as we work so close to the client. I will be doing plenty more tutorials and offering one-on-one makeup lessons when things get back to normal. My make-up parties will be back in action again once the ban lifts.”

All details for the fundraiser, plus the link to donate can be found on her Facebook page: Annette O Brien Makeup Artist, or on iDonate.ie: ‘Annette O Brien Fundraising For Pieta’.

Motorists in the Killarney area are advised that several streets and roads will be closed this weekend to facilitate the running of the Assess Ireland Rally of the Lakes.

The first of these closures began last night at Lewis Road Car Park, which is being used for Parc Fermé and will remain unavailable to the public until 9:00 pm on Sunday night.
The town centre will see significant activity on Friday evening for the ceremonial start. Roads from College Square to the Market Cross will be closed from 6:30 pm until 9:30 pm to allow the rally cars to pass through.
Additionally, Gortroe Car Park, in Fossa, will be closed from 6:00 pm on Saturday evening until 8:00 am on Sunday morning.
Saturday’s racing action begins early with the iconic Moll’s Gap stage. The N71 will be closed from 6:45 am until 11:30 am, covering the route from Muckross House to Carrig East.
The Gortnagane stage will require closures on the L-3014 and L-7054 from 8:30 am to 4:05 pm, while the Knockrower East stage will see roads closed from Toorenamult to Anablaha between 3:10 pm and 7:15 pm.
On Sunday, Molls Gap will close again for a longer period, from 7:20 am until 3:35 pm. Further closures are scheduled for the Ballaghbeama stage on the R-568 and L-4047 from 8:45 am to 4:25 pm, and the Shanera stage from Gortmaloon West to Meanus Cross between 9:30 am and 5:00 pm.
Local residents and visitors are reminded that all public roads adjoining the competitive routes will also be closed for a distance of 205 metres from each junction.
