Local beautician plans free treatments for frontline workers

Hairdressers and beauty therapists around Ireland – including one local business – are planning to join forces for a "massive day of thank you" to frontline healthcare workers.

The 'Frontline Give Back Day' will take place when the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and will see salons offer a day of free treatments to frontline healthcare workers.

The day is the idea of Tullamore, Co Offaly, business-owner Olivia Murray who put a call-out on Instagram for other businesses to join the initiative. Businesses are encouraged to offer six treatments or six hours of personal care to frontline staff.

And one local beautician who answered the call is Jill O’Donoghue from Killarney Toning and Beauty Salon located in Fair Hill.

Jill says that although she’s currently closed to the public, she is more than happy to give something back when she reopens.

“I have signed up for the 'Frontline Give Back Day Campaign’ whereby I will be offering free treatments to our amazing frontline angels in the hopefully not too distant future!” Jill told the Killarney Advertiser this week.

“I will be opening my salon doors some Sunday to offer some much needed and deserved massage, beauty or body treatments absolutely free of charge. Our amazing frontline staff are working tirelessly to keep us and our loved ones safe during these challenging times. We will never truly be able to thank them enough for what they are doing for our families, for our communities and for our country, but together we can show them our appreciation through little acts of kindness like this. In times like these, the saying ‘alone we can do so little; together we can do so much’ really rings true.”

She said it’s hard to know when to open as they'll have to wait and see what happens on May 5 first.

"When we do reopen we will put the health of our clients first and have stringent safety measures in place. We can’t wait to meet all our clients again.”

A new feature film, created by Irish writer and director Liam O Mochain, is set for release in Killarney next Friday, November 7.

Mr O Mochain said he is delighted to bring ABODE to a Killarney audience following its sold out world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh and a screening at the recent IndieCork film festival.

ABODE is a feature film with five stories connected by the theme of home and what it means to the different characters in the film.

It shows that home has an importance and a different meaning for everyone.

In ABODE, everyone wants to belong somewhere. The film was shot over a three-year period and finished in early 2025.

O Mochain says that the stories are a mix of drama and comedy, inspired by true stories, events or incidents.

It is set on the theme of home which is very relevant today.

Ryan Lincoln, Sophie Vavessuer, and Liam O Mochain are among the cast.

ABODE is O Mochain’s fourth feature film. His 2017 feature film ‘Lost & Found’ screened at festivals around the world from the Galway Film Fleadh to the Austin Film Festival
