Mayor and Gardai ask people to stay at home this Bank Holiday weekend

Killarney Gardai say they will be extra vigilant towards visitors from outside the county who may be making unessential journeys over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
They will operate a number of checkpoints across the county and will target known visitor spots as well as additional checkpoints on secondary routes and in towns and villages.
The operation will run until the end of the May Bank Holiday weekend on Monday night, May 4.
“Places are closed, beaches are closed, there is no point in travelling,” Superintendent Flor Murphy told the Killarney Advertiser. “People may consider accessing the county to visit holiday homes and the like, but they are not welcome.”
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Kerry Cllr Niall Kelleher, said that the long weekend must not be an excuse to change behaviour and he reiterated the appeal of the public health authorities for everyone to stay the course.
“I am appealing to everyone in Kerry to stay at home this weekend and thereby show support for those on the frontline who are leading the response on the Coronavirus,” he said.
“There are signs that the sacrifices we are all making are having an impact in the battle against this dreadful disease. It is hugely challenging for everyone to stay at home, to limit social contact and to stay away from our loved ones. But at this critical juncture, we must stay the course and not be tempted to relax our approach or change our behaviour.”
