Killarney Garda helping those in need
HAPPY TO HELP: A delighted Joe and Shirley Tobin take delivery of a new wheelchair from Killarney Gardai Mary O'Shea and Brendan O'Donovan.

Killarney Gardaí this week came to rescue of one local elderly couple in need of a new wheelchair who were unable to leave their home due to extended restrictions enforced on those aged over 70.
The couple, Joe and Shirley Tobin, were in dire need of a new wheelchair and contacted the local HSE branch office.
However, as there was no new or even refurbished wheelchairs available in the Killarney locality, the District Nurse sourced one in Tralee.
Killarney-based gardai, Mary O'Shea and Brendan O'Donoghue, were sent to Tralee where they picked up the new wheelchair for Joe, and delivered it to the couple's Killarney home.
“Usually we would not seek publicity for doing this – it is all part of the job, but Joe and Shirley were very thankful and they wanted a photograph taken to acknowledge their appreciation,” Sergeant Dermot O’Connell told the Killarney Advertiser.
He added that his members are there to help the community and anyone who needs help, no matter how big or small, should contact Killarney Garda Station on 064 6671160 and they will dispatch a unit or contact the appropriate community organisation to help.
