Killarney Gardai have warned people that they will have to respect the 2km restricted travel zones or face criminal charges after a member of the force was verbally abused yesterday (Thursday).
They had been taking a soft approach with people found outside the 2km zone who were not on essential business.
By and large they are getting support from the general public as many don’t fully understand the new restrictions that came into place last Friday night.
However, when they politely stopped this particular man, who had travelled from another town to get some general exercise in Killarney, they were verbally abused.
“On this occasion we took no further action, only sent him on his merry way, he was coming in from another town to pass the day,” Sergeant Dermot O’Connell told the Killarney Advertiser.
“People need to respect the Government’s request to stay within the 2km zone to stop the cross-contamination and transferability of this disease.”
