Safe drinking water in Barraduff and Shrone
&
Water supplies in Barraduff and Shrone – effecting 1,500 water consumers - have been removed from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) remedial action list.
The latest report from the EPA shows that Irish Water has reduced the number of schemes on the Remedial Action List (RAL) in Kerry to four.
The RAL identifies drinking water supplies that are ‘at risk’ of failing to consistently supply safe, clean drinking water.
The supplies in Barraduff and Shrone have been given the thumbs up by the EPA following extensive investment and upgrade works by Irish Water working in partnership with Kerry County Council. Works are continuing on water supplies still on the RAL with a view to having them removed from the RAL as soon as possible.
“The publication of the latest RAL by the EPA confirms that whilst improvements have been made in many areas, the scale of the challenge faced by Irish Water in ensuring the delivery of clean and safe water in Kerry and throughout the country remains," Paul Cremin, Capital Programme Regional Lead, said.
Irish Water is also about to commence a €300,000 upgrade to water supply infrastructure in Knightstown on Valentia Island. Increased storage will be provided to safeguard the security of water supply to the village and surrounding townlands during peak seasonal periods. The project will be carried out by Shay Murtagh Precast Ltd., in conjunction with Kerry County Council and will take a number of months to complete.
