Clifford confirmed as Kerry captain for 2020
F
Fossa and East Kerry forward David Clifford has been named captain of the Kerry senior footballers for 2020.
The two-time All-Star, who celebrates his 21st birthday tomorrow (Wednesday), becomes one of the youngest ever players to skipper The Kingdom.
As is customary in Kerry, the reigning senior football champions had the honour of nominating the captain for the coming year and Clifford, the only East Kerry representative who started last year’s All-Ireland finals, was considered by many to be the natural choice - despite his tender years.
It is believed that 2020 could be the last year that the Kerry manager does not select his own captain, with a decision on changing the traditional system to be made at a county board meeting later this month.
“The huge honour of captaining the Kerry senior football team lies with our clubman David Clifford for 2020,” Fossa GAA tweeted.
“We have no doubt David will do himself, his family, our club and East Kerry proud.”
