She may be only seven-years-old but one local girl has proved she understands the gift of giving after donating her hair to charity this week.

Aveen Kennedy from Faha, donated 12 inches of her hair to the The Little Princess Trust on Saturday after selflessly chopping off her locks.

Aveen, daughter of Annett Moench and Robert Kennedy, also brought her friend along to Jordan Hair Salon in Killarney for support, her mom explained to the Killarney Advertiser.

“When she was six she told me about The Little Princess Charity,” Annett said.

“She brought her friend but she was really happy to cut it. I don’t know where she heard about it and because the idea came from herself it’s very special and we’re very proud.”

On Monday, the Fossa National School pupil got some admiring looks from classmates.

“She was the centre of attention in school. Everyone was saying it’s such a nice thing to do.”
